Josh Drinkwater : « I wanted to stay at Dragons Catalans »
We have met Josh Drinkwater who explains to us why he left the Catalans and how he enjoyed his time in Perpignan.
Josh, many people have talk about reasons you left Catalans. Can You please give us your explanation on this point ? And personally did you want to stay with Catalans ?
I wanted to stay at the club yes. I made it clear to the club after winning the final I wanted to stay but I think everyone in super league knew Matty Smith had been signed there for months prior and they were going with him as there halfback for the next couple of years. The club had offered me a deal and after the Challenge Cup final my manager and I informed the club we accepted the deal but they said the deal is off the table now it’s to late and taken to long.
2018 was a great year, winning Challenge Cup, what does this trophy represent for you ?
Winning the Challenge Cup by far the highlight of my career, personally it was great but seeing how much it meant to the boys after there tough start to the season and the fans and sponsors it was a great feeling.
Apart from this cup, what will you remember of your few months with Dragons Catalans ?
I’ll remember Perpignan and the club as a great place to live and play footy. It was the most enjoyable season I’ve had and hopefully one day in the future I might be able to come back and play.
What do you think about Catalans fans ?
I loved the fans and I couldn’t speak French but they are so passionate and love there team. The fans that could speak English where very nice and made my time at Catalans so enjoyable.
Did you enjoy your life in Perpignan ?
I loved my time in Perpignan getting to live in a beautiful part of the world and play rugby league as a job was an amazing expierence.
Where are you going to play in 2019 ?
2019 will be sorted soon for me hopefully it’s taken a lot longer to sign for a club but I’m confident it will be sorted soon.
I want to wish the club all the success in 2019 and in the future. I have no hard feelings and who knows what can happen in the future.
