Tony Tumusa : « I’ve got a lot of work to get on top »
After the victory of his team against Limoux, Treize Mondial met with new Carcassonne’s XIII player Tony Tumusa who gave us his first thoughts about his new life in France.
Tony, can you introduce yourself in a few words ?
My name is Tony Tumusa, I’m from Samoa but i was born and raised in New Zealand. After i moved over to Australia to play Rugby league. I have a beautiful wife and 2 gorgeous kids.
Why do you choose to come in France and especially Carcassonne ?
Carcassonne gave me a good opportunity to be able to travel the world and do what I love doing. But also a good opportunity to pursue a career in Super League.
How does go your adaptation to France, on and off the field ?
Off the field was a bit challenging. Weather was cold, food was different, driving was different and also the language barrier. But with a club like Carcassonne and kiwi boys I’ve met here who are family orientated, they made my family feel like home. On the field was a bit difficult. Wasn’t to sure about some rules and plays. Some rules I’ve never herd about. There’s a lot of penalties that are unnecessary. I’m sure if we cut out some of the penalties and play RUGBY LEAGUE. Not only players will enjoy it but fans will love it more. I’ve played 3 games and there has been at least 10 yellow cards and 30+ penalties. In Australia I would play 3 games with 9 being the max for penalties and not 1 yellow card.
You’ve played in various positions since your arrival. Whats your favorite position ?
My favourite position is Fullback. I love to be where the action is. I love getting my hands on the ball.
That was a very good victory against Limoux. What do you think about the performance of the team ?
My teams performance wasn’t the best performance on the weekend. We had to many penalties. To many turnovers. But in the second half we dug deep and played a good game. We have a lot to work on, our passing, kicking and controlling the ruck better.
On your own opinion, are you happy of your firsts games ?
I’ve got a lot to work on to get to the top so I wouldn’t say I’m happy with my performance. I would say I’m happy I’m heading in the right direction. I can’t get comfortable and I won’t. Just need to work harder at training and be mentally tough.
Another derby this weekend against Lezignan. What do you know about this team ?
All I know is that my mate Tua and Amine plays for them. Don’t know much about their team. They must be good if they are in the top4 so I’m looking forward to a good hard game.
