Mitchell Francis : « A new challenge for myself so I could not refuse »
Mitchell Francis, new SO Avignon player, talks about his choice to join the Bisons and his brother Dane.
Mitchell, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Mitchell Francis, I am 23 years old from Wollongong, Australia. I am currently signed with the North Sydney Bears in the NSW Cup. I am studying teaching at University and an artist also.
Why you sign in Elite 1 and in Avignon?
I chose to sign in elite 1 because my brother Dane was over here 2 seasons ago playing in the competition and had nothing but good things to say, it looks like a really good level of competition and a new challenge for myself so I could not refuse. I was always drawn to Avignon, the club always looks very professional and I have heard good things about the club and the area so the opportunity to bring something new to the team excited me.
Did you follow the elite 1 championship before you come?
For the last 2 years I have followed elite 1 a lot. I knew I would end up playing in the competition so I need to know what to expect when I get there and seeing my brother win elite 1 in 2022 only made me more interested.
What do you think you bring to your team?
I think I will bring some enthusiasm to the team, I like to play the game at a fast pace so I’m hoping I can use my speed to my advantage and do whatever is needed to win games.
What are your ambitions to next season?
My main ambition is to win the competition. I think that Avignon is in a good position to make a run for it this season and that’s why I joined.
