Stuart Mason : « J’ai adoré chaque instant passé en France et à Lézignan »
Stuart Mason, pilier de Lézignan, revient sur la victoire contre Avignon et ses deux saisons au club.
Que penses-tu de la victoire contre Avignon ?
La victoire contre Avignon était très belle. C’était génial de terminer à domicile par une victoire, surtout pour notre capitaine qui termine au Moulin avec un succès, c’est incroyable pour le groupe et les supporters.
Quels souvenirs gardes-tu de tes deux années à Lézignan ?
J’ai adoré chaque instant passé en France et à Lézignan. Les gens ici ont été très accueillants, que ce soit dans la communauté ou parmi les joueurs. La nourriture française, l’apprentissage de la langue, le vin, tout est incroyable. J’ai aussi noué des amitiés pour la vie et créé des souvenirs que je chérirai toujours.
Que penses-tu de ta saison individuellement ?
Les résultats cette saison ont été décevants. Nous avons eu du mal à trouver notre direction en début de saison et nous avons perdu des matchs très serrés, ce qui nous a coûté en fin de saison. Cependant, personnellement, j’ai beaucoup apprécié être entouré de l’équipe et du staff, et j’ai toujours pris plaisir à venir aux entraînements et aux matchs malgré les résultats.
Que penses-tu du niveau en Super XIII ?
Le niveau est assez élevé en Super XIII. Je me sens toujours physiquement challengé chaque semaine, et il y a de très bons joueurs dans toutes les équipes, ce qui rend le championnat fort et compétitif.
Qui vois-tu champion ?
Le championnat est très relevé cette année. Avec Saint-Estève XIII Catalan qui a battu Albi en finale de la Coupe, cela rend les choses très intéressantes. J’espère juste que ce sera n’importe qui sauf Carcassonne (rires).

What did you think of the victory against Avignon?
The victory against Avignon was very nice. It was great to finish at home with a win, especially for our captain to finish at Moulin with a victory, it’s amazing for the group and the supporters.
What memories will you keep after two years in Lezignan?
I have loved every minute of living in France and in Lézignan. The people here have been so welcoming, from everyone in the community to all of the players. The French food, learning the language, the wine, it’s all amazing. I have also made some lifelong friends and created memories that I will cherish forever.
What do you think of your season individually?
The results this season were disappointing. We struggled with direction early in the season and lost some really close games, which hurt us at the end. However, personally, I have really enjoyed being around the team and staff, and I always loved coming to training and games, despite the results.
What do you think of the level in Super XIII?
The level is quite good in Super XIII. I always feel physically challenged every week, and there are lots of good players in every team, which keeps the competition strong and competitive.
Who do you think will be champion?
The championship is very strong this year. With St Estève beating Albi in the cup final, it makes things very interesting. I just hope it’s anyone except Carcassonne (laughs).
