Josh Gatt : « Je suis fier de faire partie du SO Avignon »
Josh Gatt, nouveau joueur du SO Avignon, évoque les raisons de son retour en France et ses ambitions avec les Bisons en Super XIII.
Josh, peux-tu te présenter ?
Je m’appelle Josh Gatt, j’ai 24 ans, je suis Australien et Maltais. Je suis international maltais et ancien joueur des Redcliffe Dolphins et de Salon.
Comment s’est fait le contact avec Avignon ?
Je connaissais déjà le nouvel entraîneur du SOA XIII, Liam Duffy, et il m’a contacté durant l’été pour discuter de la possibilité de venir à Avignon. J’aime beaucoup la région, donc dès que l’opportunité s’est présentée, je lui ai immédiatement dit que je voulais venir. Ensuite, j’ai échangé avec les dirigeants du club, et nous avons pu régler tous les détails pour que j’arrive à temps pour le début de la pré-saison.
Que penses-tu du niveau en Super XIII ?
Le niveau en Super XIII est très élevé. Ayant joué en QLD Cup et en U21 avec les Redcliffe Dolphins, je peux dire que le professionnalisme au SOA est excellent que ce soit sur le plan technique, dans l’engagement ou même dans l’organisation en coulisses. Liam met beaucoup l’accent sur le professionnalisme, que ce soit pour les joueurs, l’équipe ou le club. Jusqu’à présent, c’est vraiment une super expérience d’en faire partie et tous les joueurs respectent les standards fixés par le staff.
Pourquoi venir jouer en France ?
Je connais bien la région d’Avignon, et quand l’opportunité est arrivée de revenir jouer ici, je n’ai pas hésité une seule seconde. J’étais à 100 % motivé dès le départ.
Quelles sont tes ambitions avec Avignon ?
Je n’ai pas forcément beaucoup d’objectifs personnels cette saison. Arrivé pour la pré-saison, ma première ambition est d’être prêt physiquement et bien préparé pour le premier match. Mon objectif principal est collectif. Je suis fier de faire partie du SOA et je veux aider le club à retrouver le chemin de la victoire après une saison compliquée l’an dernier.
Liam et le staff nous demandent déjà beaucoup, même après seulement quelques séances de pré-saison. Je pense que si nous continuons à nous entraîner et à jouer avec la même intensité, nous pouvons réaliser une très belle saison, et je suis vraiment impatient.
Josh, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Josh Gatt, I’m a 24-year-old Australian/Maltese. I am a Maltese international and a former player for the Redcliffe Dolphins and Salon.
How did the contact with Avignon happen?
I already knew SOA XIII’s new head coach, Liam Duffy, and he had been in contact with me throughout the summer to discuss the possibility of coming to Avignon. I love the region, so as soon as the opportunity came up, I immediately told him I’d love to come. After that, I got in touch with the management staff, and we managed to sort everything out so I could arrive in time for the start of pre-season.
What do you think about the level in Super XIII?
The level in Super XIII is very high. Having played in the QLD Cup and under-21s with the Redcliffe Dolphins, I can say the professionalism at SOA has been excellent whether in terms of skill, application, or even the work done behind the scenes. A big focus for SOA and for Liam has been on professionalism in all aspects, as athletes, as a team, and as a club. So far, it has been great to be part of this, and all the players are following the standards set by the staff.
Why did you come to France to play rugby?
I know the Avignon region well, and when the opportunity came up to return and play here, it was never a question. I was 100% on board from the start.
What are your ambitions with Avignon?
I don’t have many personal ambitions for this season. Since I arrived at the start of pre-season, my first goal is to get into the best shape and prepare well for round 1.
My main focus is on the team. I’m proud to be part of SOA, and I want to help the club get back to winning form after a tough season last year.
Liam and the staff are already demanding a lot from us during pre-season after just a few sessions, and I believe that if we continue to train and play with the same intensity, we can have a great season and I’m excited about that.
