Reinhold Kamilo : « Challenge myself as a person and player »
Reinhold Kamilo, Villefranche new player, scored two tries on debut and talk about his new challenge in France.
Reinhold, can you quickly present yourself ?
My name is Reinhold Kamilo, I was born in Auckland, New Zealand but lived most of my life in Canberra, Australia. My parents are Samoan and I’m one of 8 kids.
Why do you choose to come in France ? and Why Villefranche ?
Choosing to come to France was difficult as I first had to decide whether I could leave my family, friends and my partner for a full season but ultimately I wanted to play rugby league again in a professional environment. Villefranche had expressed interest in my profile as a rugby league player and after much consideration I decided this was the perfect opportunity to play footy professionally, challenge myself as a person and player and also do some travel.
2 tries for you first match, that’s a great start ?
I was lucky enough to get two meat pies in my debut match… and the tries as well. Was a credit to the boys for being strong up the middle. Leading into the game I just wanted to be strong in defence. Villegailhenc exposed us once on our right edge where I play centre but we held strong enough to help get the win.
And the first win of the season for the team, what do you think of the team’s performance ?
I know I speak for all the boys and Brams our coach when i say that It’s a great feeling to get our first win after 2 close losses. Well deserved as the boys have been working hard and beating last years champions. It will be great morale for the boys leading into the week off, hopefully we continue to build from here on in. The team performed well but I still believe we have a lot to do to get to where we want to be. I feel Brams has a bunch of tricks up in his sleeve still that he’s yet to translate to french so that’s exciting for us.
What are your goals here ?
I’ve only been here 6 days so far but I’ve loved every minute living here. The boys and the club have been very welcoming despite being absolutely terrible at speaking french. My goals here are to help the club to a grand final win and play the highest level of rugby league I can outside of Australia.
