Corey Willis : « Competing to hopefully make it into the top 4 »
Corey Willis, a new recruit for Saint-Gaudens, takes a look back at his season in Elite 2 with Villefranche and talks about his signing with the Bears.
Corey, can you introduce yourself?
Corey Willis, 27 years old from Cronulla in Sydney.
What do you think to season at Villefranche and what memories you keep to the club?
My first year in France was very enjoyable at Villefranche. We had a really great team and we achieved a lot of good things during the season. Unfortunately we lost the grand final but overall it was a successful season. Winning the semi-final at our home ground in front of a big crowd of local people was a memory I will remember for a long time.
Why did you sign at Saint-Gaudens?
I had some really good conversations with Mitch Garbutt about signing with Saint-Gaudens and the direction the club is headed. They have improved a lot in just one season and the hope is to keep improving and competing to hopefully make it into the top 4, which is a goal of the club and a goal of mine for the upcoming season.
What do you think of the Elite 1 Championship?
The elite 1 has some really great teams full of talented players. Watching the semi-finals and grand final last season, it was easy to see that they play at a very high level and work really hard to be there. I believe that is what we need to do to try and play in those games at the end of next season.
