Corey Mulhall, second row of Carcassonne XIII, looks ahead to the French Cup semi-final against Avignon and talks about the end of the season.
Corey, can you introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Corey Mulhall. I am a 28 year old Australian, and I am currently playing second row for Carcassonne in Elite 1 rugby league.
What are the strengths of Avignon in your opinion?
Avignon has very powerful forwards who link up nicely together. If they get a roll, it will allow their skilled backs a chance to create something!
What do you think of your season?
I think I fit into this team pretty well, I am getting better linking up with Clément Herrero in attack and the boys trust me in defence which helps us being solid on the right side! I feel I’m improving every game coming into finals.
What are the differences between the French championship and the Australian championship?
There are some differences in the way Australia plays compared to France. In Australia, they are quicker to call a tackle, which speeds up the ruck a lot, whereas in France, you can wrestle for a lot longer, which allows the attack a better chance to set up.
What are your individual and collective goals, and what would a successful season look like for you?
My personal goal is to test and challenge myself to improve. This year, the team’s goal is to win both the Cup and the championship. I am playing alongside some very good players, and I’m sure that we can beat any team if we turn up ready to play.
