Joel Strasser, new player for Phoenix Tonneins XIII, talks about his arrival in France and his ambitions for the coming season.
Joel, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Joel Strasser, I’m a 24-year-old Australian who’s been living and playing rugby league in London for the past two years.
How did the contact with Tonneins happen?
Joris reached out to me and we started talking. Playing in France is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, so I took the opportunity.
What do you think about the level in Elite 2?
I’ve had friends who have played in Elite 2 before, and I know it’s going to be physical and a tough style of rugby league.
Why did you come to France to play rugby?
After three seasons in England, I was ready for something new. I’m excited to learn more about French culture and to travel around Europe.
What are your ambitions with Tonneins?
My ambitions with Tonneins are to reach the playoffs. I’d like to finish the season in a better position than in the 2024/2025 season.
